Lessons Unit 6, lesson 1

Read anything

You know every sound, every mark, and how sentences flow. The last lesson is a habit, not a topic: bring your own text. Paste a sentence from something you're reading today — a message, an article, a menu — and read it aloud from the sheet. Start with these two, then use your own.

What do the marks mean?
ˈriːdread Stressed part — say it louder & longer.
to Weak word — say it quickly & softly.
e Silent letter — don’t pronounce it.
θth Underline — these letters spell one sound.
wa·ter Dot · — a syllable break.
goon Linked — blend the words together.
?↗︎↘︎ Arrows — voice rises ↗︎ or falls ↘︎.
ˈsɛvən7 Number — how to say it aloud.
read² ² mark — has a second pronunciation.
guess? ? mark — a best guess; double-check it.

Want the full walkthrough? Read the map explains every mark, with practice.

Read these aloud

Press play, listen to the whole sentence, then read it from the sheet yourself — match the rhythm, not just the sounds.

Practice a little every day.

Why this lesson has no new content

There is nothing new to teach here — that's the point. The knight reads aloud and Practice a little every day use sounds, stress, silent letters, weak words, flaps, and linking you already know. This lesson is a habit, not a topic: the moment you can sound out a sentence you've never seen before, on your own, the course has done its job.

How to keep going after this

Bring your own text tomorrow — a message, a menu, a headline — and read it from its sheet the same way. You will hit words the engine marks in ways that surprise you at first; trust the marks over your instinct every time, the way you did on page one with the very first diacritic. That's the whole promise of SayNative: no teacher required, any text, any day.

This is the whole point of SayNative: you don't need lessons forever, and you never needed a teacher. Any text, any day — the sheet shows you how it sounds.
